It's been about two months since my last post, so I've decided I'll put up a news post just to keep you all updated. I've been a bit busy since then, and that's partly because of two games I just got last week. On January 29th, I went out and got Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam and LEGO Marvel's Avengers 3DS. Paper Jam is a load of fun, despite the fact that its story is just another generic "Bowsers have kidnapped Peach, go get her back!" tale. There's quite a lot that could've been done with PJ's plot, and it's just squandered. I really don't like the "screw story" ideal that seems to be plaguing Nintendo these past six years.
Paper Jam takes a lot of what made Dream Team fun and gives them a huge boosts. Expert Challenges are more diverse, the game as a whole is speedier, the moves are quicker (as are the tutorials) and don't feel that slow anymore, and battles are fun to do! I haven't gotten that far into LEGO Marvel's Avengers, but I'm liking what I see! It has an open world, which is a first for 3DS LEGO games (the last game to do that was LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins, and the last licensed 3DS LEGO game to have a similar thing was LEGO The Lord of the Rings), although the game lags trying to keep up with everything on screen. The game looks like a lot of fun, and I'll be happy to give it a go once I'm done with M&LPJ. Speaking of M&LPJ, I'll be gearing up to make some custom sprites for the game, just like I did with Dream Team about a year after it released, and I want to tackle these things from the game: Overworld HUD, Battle HUD, and the Menu. I might do some other things a little later, but right now I want to try doing the menu (which looks a lot more simplistic than DT's, which will be quite a welcome change). So until I can get some more updates posted, keep looking around! I'll see if I can get some progress done on PJ's menu (and maybe once I've got the PJ stuff done I'll actually finish that DT menu I've been procrastinating on!). We'll see.
